In 1994 Justin Hall was a student at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Ace of Base pop songs were hitting the top of the charts and Pulp Fiction was in theaters. Justin decided to open his interests to the public and created Links.net, offering what is widely considered the earliest guided tour of the web. And pretty much then blogging was born. Not very distant from there and just some time later Jorn Barger coined the term “weblog” in his Robot Wisdom page, a label created to reflect the process of “logging the web” as he browsed. By 2005 about 10% of the US population was reading blogs. Let’s fast forward now: Justin ended up becoming a recruiter while Jorn seeking connections between artificial intelligence and the works of James Joyce. Just to say not all roads do necessarily lead to Rome and we may be getting there through long and winding paths. But the journey is lots of fun.
A couple of decades later I find myself moving along similar footsteps and increasingly attracted by a mixture of fact-checked sources and personal perspectives available around. So I guess it’s time to raise the curtains above a pet project I cuddled for a while.
A couple of recurring elements you are going to find over these pages:
- HR and total reward concepts dissected
- A selection of anecdotes, that may or may not contribute to the discussion but will ultimately help you look smarter at parties
The intention is to share and comment some points that won’t easily fit a traditional business conversation, with the aim to explore trends and alternatives.
Enjoy and let me know your thoughts.

Welcome, strangers, to the show
I’m the one who should be lying low
Saw the knives out, turned my back
Heard the train coming, stayed out on the track
